On the air again

I didn’t realize that it’s been six months since I posted on the blog.  I’ve been very busy with my work and haven’t had much time until recently to get on the air.

I am now using a “random wire” antenna at 85′ long using a 9:1 unun to allow me to use 20′ of Times Microwave RG-8U going into my antenna matcher.  It’s a very good antenna setup and surprisingly sensitive.  I haven’t been on the air too much lately because I’m now working evenings and since my customer is in their peak production period, I’ve been working nine hour shifts daily during the week and occasionally a Saturday shift here and there.

I did set up a little computer for use in the shack but it’s very “noisy” with RFI so I’m looking to buy a new computer to do that with.  I use Slackware Linux in the shack so it’ll run on pretty much anything.

The propagation hasn’t been too good lately so it’s really hit and miss.  I’m hoping Sunday (Jan 29), which is my one day off between work weeks, will be good for chasing some DX.

I am looking into the possibility of my setting up my Mosley RV-4C but that would involve 125′ of coax and a Ditch Witch so I’m not quite sure yet if I’m ready to do that.
