Cold at last

I bought a small A/C window unit and installed it in the shack this weekend.  Now to get the door installed and I’ll have the walls up on the shack.  It’ll be nice not to melt inside of the shack during these dog days of summer.  I haven’t done much on the air work since propagation has been rotten.  I’ve been looking into changing antennas for when it gets cooler and I will start to get on the air more often.

I’m looking at selling both of my rigs to purchase a Yaesu FT-857D.  The reasoning behind this is when I get an apartment I’ll be able to have everything in a single, small package that I can install the radio in one place and put the head somewhere else.  I really don’t work VHF/UHF that much but it’d be nice to have that capacity if I need it.

My work has been changing my hours around.  This week I’m working days, then three more weeks of working second shift, then back to days for about six weeks.  From there, I could possibly start working overnight or stay on days.  It’s all up in the air at this point.  I’d like to be able to work overnights myself so I can have the evenings to get on the air (gotta love grayline).  We’ll see what happens.
